Letter from the Governors regarding the wider re-opening of school

Please see a message from the governors regarding the wider reopening of school and kindergarten. Copies of their letters and accompanying documents were sent out to all parents yesterday can be found on our return to school  and return to kindergarten pages

Dear Parents,

We would like to thank you all for your support for the CKIS community at such a challenging and uncertain time. The national response continues to have a huge impact on all our lives, affecting us all collectively, but individually in different ways.

Your positive messages to the staff have meant a great deal. We also want to express our gratitude for the commitment and dedication of the CKIS team. There has been a considerable workload associated with adapting working practices, policy change and implementation. This has been met through the combined efforts and emotional investment of the entire staff community.

As you will be aware, the Government announced guidance for the wider reopening of schools subject to a number of criteria being met. Following this announcement, CKIS has been working hard and creatively to develop a plan in response to the updated guidance and restrictions as directed by the government. The priority for the school throughout making key decisions and planning for the children’s return remains the well-being of the children and staff by implementing measures to reduce the risk of infection, aligned with our school values.

One specific challenge has been the need to provide physical space with given classrooms and staffing for groups of no more than 15 children. This plan is in response to managing a workable solution following numerous government guidance. As a governing body we have agreed that the CKIS road map for a wider re-opening of the kindergarten and school enables both children and staff to work in line with government guidance, should the government announce that schools can start wider re-opening from the 1st June 2020.

We acknowledge that the details outlined in the ‘road map’ will not meet the individual needs of all families. We would be extremely grateful if you could take time to read all of the documents sent to you. If anything remains unclear, then please contact If you have broader queries about the Government guidance for schools, then please contact our local MP Alex Chalk (

We do wish you and your families well at this time. We are hopeful that our children will be able to be with their friends and teachers for part of the summer term and thank you again for your understanding and support

Kind regards

Dr Henning Schmidt
Chair of Governors (on behalf of the Governing Body)
