Year 1

Home learning and reading

You can download our full termly curriculum letter from the bottom of this page and find detailed information about our curriculum by following this link.

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support with your child’s learning at home. The phonics folder is key in consolidating phonics learning in class, so please regularly look back through these with your child. We would also like to remind you about the importance of daily reading. Please record each time you read in your child’s yellow diary. Studies show that children who are ‘read to’ using texts beyond their own reading capability make accelerated progress, so please do not forget the value of bedtime stories/shared story time on a daily basis. We will be celebrating our weekly reading champion (those children who have read regularly at home each week and are making accelerated progress) in each class with Mrs James during our Friday assembly.

Please do also remember that your child has access to ‘Numbots’ which is an engaging and enjoyable way for your child/ren to practise and reinforce their quick recall of number facts. We will also be celebrating our class Numbots Conquerors (the class with the most children who have accessed and completed numbots challenges) during our Friday assembly.
